Mommy had a great idea to try to keep from accidentally falling into the pool.
Your own, smaller pool.
So you and daddy went looking for one.
You looked so cute in your little skort.
You liked that one. So that’s the one daddy squeezed into the car with you.
Mommy filled your pool with just a few inches of water for you to play in.
You loved your new pool.
The best way to keep you safe around the swimming pool is to teach you to swim.
So you’re taking lessons.
It’s hard to stop you from trying to drink the pool water. And we really don’t want you drinking the pool water at the swimming lesson.
May 28, 2014. Hours after the judge gave you to us.
May 28, 2014.
May 21, 2015. Moments after daddy gave you your bath.
This is what you looked like when you came to the courthouse. I was watching for you from the window. (You’re in the stroller.)
And then mommy took you out of the stroller.
looking at mommy
We were so nervous waiting outside the courtroom where our future would be decided.
Mommy rearranged the things on the refrigerator so that postcards family sent to you are down at your level.
You love playing with your postcards.
We think you’re saying “bye.” It just sounds like ‘bah.’
you were born.
It’s like you were born with your eyes open, eager to see the world.
And 15 months later, your eyes have only opened wider and you need to see everything all at once.
Mommy and Daddy loved each other so much, and now you’ve added to that love. You add to our love and magnify it and give it back.
You have made our lives more wonderful and special. You’re a precious gift. Our little girl.
I got you up this morning and put you in a fresh diaper.
We came downstairs, and less than five minutes later, you filled your diaper.
I hope our day is better than it started.
